About

Hannah Chumbley is a printmaker and illustrator based in Shropshire. Her practice begins with observational drawing and sketchbook exploration, developing into expressive monotype screen prints shaped by both process and place. Inspired by flora, fauna, and the wider natural environment, Hannah’s work embraces curiosity, spontaneity, and the quiet discoveries that emerge through intuitive mark-making. Through layered textures and gestural forms, her prints invite viewers to engage closely with the rhythms and subtleties of the natural world.

Experimentation is central to her creative approach. Working instinctively within the monotype screen-printing process, Hannah layers, manipulates, and reworks imagery while allowing chance and improvisation to influence the final outcome. Earlier marks, sketches, and traces of process are often left visible, creating a balance between deliberate observation and unexpected moments of discovery.

Alongside her interest in materiality and process, storytelling plays an important role in Hannah’s work. Her prints often reflect a strong sense of atmosphere and place, exploring not only the physical forms of natural subjects but also their character, movement, and presence within the landscape. Combining detailed observation with more abstract interpretation, she creates visually rich works that encourage reflection and connection. The sketchbook remains at the heart of her practice. It’s a space for experimentation, reflection, and the gradual development of ideas before they are translated into print.

Her work has been exhibited across the UK at venues including Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh, Edinburgh College of Art, and The Collection, Lincoln as well as in solo exhibitions at The Shrewsbury Coffeehouse. Hannah has also collaborated with organisations and brands including The National Trust, Paso Primero, The Shrewsbury Coffehouse, Callaghans Gallery, Planet Doughnut, and Endorph Fitness.
